Chapter 1: The Start

Chapter Text
A hush filled the great hall. The doors opened. The candles that floated above the tables of the great hall flickered from the rush of wind. Cutlery clattered down from the student¡¯s hands. Marigold glided in between the tables, catching the eye of a male student sitting apart at the Slytherin table. Dumbledore stood at the head table, his glasses perched on his nose a twinkle in his eyes, ¡°Ah! Yes! A belated announcement! This year we have joining us a True Seer! Professor Trelawney¡¯s niece, Marigold! I do hope that you will treat her with respect! Now back to the feast!¡±
Marigold watched the young wizard at the table. She held his stare for only a moment longer before her food appeared in front her. Largely uninterested she picked at the meal while the students returned to their ruckus banter. She brought the glass of wine to her mouth brushing her long blond hair out the way. She had taken a risk relaying on Sybil¡¯s aid. Marigold had refused to go into another¡¯s keeping. She refused to go to the Department of Mysteries. She wanted freedom for herself, to exist outside of the confining bubble of being a True Seer. Sybil¡¯s greed over her ability had to be enough.
She reclined slowly into the chair. It would be fine here. Hogwarts hadn¡¯t had a True Seer within the walls of the castle in the past century. It was considered an honour to host one. She saw the future in glimpses, an easement to her mind. Speaking prophecy by the administration of Veritaserum was exhausting and left her mind reeling, eventually it would lead to madness. She had seen it with her own mother. That terrible Ward 49 in St Mungos. Trapped alone and scared. She sought the wizard with cold black eyes once again. There was something to that, she refused to think about it too much. Sybil, drunk yet again, stood from the table. Dutifully, as did Marigold. ¡°If you¡¯ll excuse us,¡± Sybil stuttered while she spoke. ¡°I do believe I should get Marigold settled in her rooms.¡±
¡°Perhaps that would be for the best. I believe the journey was quite long,¡± Dumbledore said. ¡°If you¡¯d be so kind to join me in my office tomorrow, True Seer, the password is lemon drops.¡±She nodded, ¡°Of course.¡± She tucked her hands into the sleeves of her robes. Underneath her robes she wore a short black dress. She knew with every step there was a flash of her bare leg, rebellion against the stifling regulation that was her life.
¡°Fine then!¡± Sybil said a titch too loudly. ¡°Come along!¡± And Marigold followed, appeasing her aunt and knowing that she was the only way out of her predicament.
Marigold had settled into her room the night before though her thoughts were muddled at best. She went to Dumbledore¡¯s office, ¡°Lemon drops.¡± The door opened and the phoenix was the only one inside. ¡°Hello,¡± Marigold uttered, and she was someplace else. Someplace in the future she knew she was not a part of¡ A boy stood in front of the desk with thick round glasses, black hair and bright green eyes. And then as quickly as it came it was gone as Dumbledore appeared into her line of sight. Death was being quiet.
¡°Ah yes, my dear. I understand that you require potions. I have made arrangements for them to be provided to you by Professor Slughorn,¡± the Headmaster said. She dipped her head down in a show of respect, ¡°Thank you.¡±
¡°He should be expecting soon,¡± he added. ¡°I do wish your stay here is to your satisfaction, please come to me should you need any help.¡±
¡®Trust no one,¡¯ her mothers last words came to Marigold yet again. She knew that she could not trust this Dumbledore completely.
¡°I shall go there now.¡±
