Chapter 1: Hogwarts Letter

Chapter Text
¡°Ari! Ari!¡± Mariela looked over the edge of the branch she was sitting on to see the youngest Weasley running up to the tree ¡°Ari!¡±¡°Hello Ginny!¡± the ginger called down.¡°Can you play with me?¡± Ginny asked, clasping her small hands together in a begging motion. The half-elf fondly smiled at the girl. She was like the little sister that she never had. Her mother had chosen well by picking a small cottage that was near to the Burrow. Not only were Molly and Arthur Weasley her godparents but she made friends with their daughter, Ginny. The newly turned 11 year old climbed down the tree, stopping on the lower branch and hung upside down. ¡°You¡¯re so silly!¡± Ginny giggled as Mariela pulled faces at her. ?She jumped down ¡°tag! You¡¯re it!¡± she proclaimed, tapping the 9 year old on the arm. Mariela ran off with Ginny chasing after her. From Ilmar? Cottage, Tauriel watched her daughter play with the girl with an almost wistful smile on her face. She¡¯d always wanted a bigger family but with Sirius in Azkaban for something he didn¡¯t even do¡having more children wasn¡¯t going to be possible as she didn¡¯t want to be with anyone else. After Kili she didn¡¯t want to love again. It hurt way too much. Then she met Sirius and everything changed. For the second time in her long life she¡¯d lost the one she loved. After two losses, there was no way that she was letting anything happen to her daughter.A screech broke through her thoughts and she glanced over to see a brown barn owl swoop though an open window¡only to crash into the fruit bowl on the table. Tauriel couldn¡¯t help but facepalm. ¡°Damn bird¡±, she muttered to herself as the owl took off, heading to its little home in one of the dark corners of the cottage. She plucked the envelope that bird had left behind from the fruit bowl. The elf recognised the seal on the back. It was Mariela¡¯s Hogwarts letter. She wasn¡¯t sure whether to be happy or worried about it. Yes, she was overjoyed that her daughter would be getting into Hogwarts , just like her father did. Though she had some reservations. There¡¯s Mariela¡¯s hybrid nature AND who her father was. If anyone at the school found out either, it would spell danger for her daughter.———-It was a couple of hours later when Mariela came back to the cottage, leaves in her hair, mud and grass stains on her clothes. Tauriel shook her head at the state of her daughter. ¡°Had fun?¡± she asked, with amusement in her voice.¡°I did actually¡±, Mariela replied with a smile ¡°we played tag and then pretended to be monkeys in the trees. Ginny is pretty good at being a monkey¡±.Her mother chuckled ¡°I bet she is¡±, she remarked ¡°anyway, I¡¯ve got some good news¡±.The birthday girl brightened ¡°it came?¡±Tauriel smiled and produced the letter, holding it out to her ¡°it came¡±, she confirmed. Mariela squealed and snatched it out of her hands. She didn¡¯t open it right away though. ¡°What¡¯s wrong?¡± she asked.¡°What if this is a mistake?¡± the girl counter questioned ¡°what if I wasn¡¯t meant to get this?¡± she dropped her gaze to her shoes.¡°Of course you were meant to get it¡±, Tauriel said softly. She stepped forward, touching her daughter¡¯s face and gently her chin to look her in the eyes ¡°you have every right to be at Hogwarts as anyone¡±.¡°But I¡¯m half elf¡±, Mariela mumbled.¡°And some of the will children have non-magic parents¡±, Tauriel reminded her ¡°parentage doesn¡¯t define who deserves to go to Hogwarts more. Your name was put down to attend the school not long after you were born¡±.¡°It was?¡± the hybrid asked, surprised and her mother nodded. Mariela looked down at the envelope that was addressed to her and tore it open, pulling out a thick piece of parchment.?

¡°This is really official¡±, Mariela breathed ¡°I¡¯m really going to Hogwarts!¡± she jumped up and down ¡°this is the best birthday ever!¡±Tauriel laughed at how happy she was. She took the letter from her daughter so she could get their owl to send a response to Dumbledore later. ¡°Now, what would you say to cake and presents?¡±¡°I say¡yes!¡± Mariela declared loudly, pumping her fists into the air. Tauriel laughed again as she led her daughter to the living room where the two of them proceeded to properly celebrate her 11th birthday.————Later¡Mariela lay in bed fiddling with her birthday present around her neck. Her mother claimed it was a little piece of Middle Earth that she could take with her to Hogwarts. The birthday girl really liked her necklace, it was simple but pretty. Plus anything to do with where her mother used to live was something she was always going to love. Her mother was pretty open about the wonderous land of Middle Earth. Which was the complete opposite of her father. All she knew was that he was a wizard and that he¡¯d loved her very much. She didn¡¯t know anything else and her mother refused to talk about him, claiming it was too painful. Mariela never pushed though. She wasn¡¯t about to force her mother to talk about something if she didn¡¯t want to.The ginger turned her gaze to the enchanted ceiling of her bedroom. She didn¡¯t watch the sparkling stars for very long until her eyes felt like they were getting heavy. The half elf rolled over onto her side and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of the day she would start her new school.
