Chapter 1: Prologue.
¡ª?¡ªSome stories begin due to a prophecy. Some stories begin because ¡®wrong place, wrong time¡¯. And some stories¡ª such as this one¡ª begin from the wrath of a scorned ghost, one that was holding up a middle finger to prophecies and seers, one that was prepared to scorch through hell to defy fate itself.?Lily Evans had been the definition of the phrase ¡®hell hath no fury like a woman scorned¡¯ when she was living. One knew to stay out of her way when she was mad¡ª one would be advised to leave the country if she was livid. There was no stopping an angered Gryffindor when they set their mind on it. Not even death could stop Lily Evans when she was on her warpath. Now unbound by the physicalities of the living, the former Gryffindor was unstoppable , if it came to revenge. But there was only so much a ghost could do for her beloved, living son.?First things first, Lily could only roam the grounds that she set foot on while she was living, which meant that Privet Drive was out of the picture. The woman could count on one hand the amount of times her sister had invited her over. Left to float over the destroyed state of her former home, the rubbles of a cottage that once stood warm in Godric Hollow, Lily Evans spent a ton of time travelling between the underworld and the house, testing limits and wracking her head for a way to protect her baby boy.?She wasn¡¯t the youngest wixen to be awarded a charms mastery for nothing.?¡ª?¡ª
Followed shortly after the disastrous events of exam week was the long-awaited summer holidays, which Severus welcomed with open arms. Since he found the heat unbearable, it made sense that he would retreat in the stone-cold depths of his dungeons, concentrating all his time and focus into polishing and experimenting with potion recipes. Written over a scrap parchment in his spidery scrawl was a short list of the concepts he¡¯d like to explore over the few, scarce weeks he had to himself.?
With the Hogwarts Express puffing away into the distance, Severus slinked back down towards the base of the castle, finding comfort in the grey hallways that he had known since he was a schoolboy. The Bloody Baron gave him a curt nod as they passed each other; the man was not of many words, and neither was Severus. The wordless greeting did just fine for both.?
While encountering the Bloody Baron among the dungeon corridors was expected, Severus would not have, in any scenario, predicted the ghost of Lily Evans appearing, young as the day she passed, the warm, living flush of her skin replaced with eerie white. In a brief moment, the potions master racked through his mind, searching for a potion that he brewed in the past twenty-four hours that might have left him with delusional side-effects due to the fumes. The search came up empty¡ª either he was really lacking sleep, or¡ª
The ghost of Lily Evans spoke.?
